Use A Real Estate Attorney

If you use a criminal lawyer to review your real estate documents are you getting every aspect of professionalism that your entitled to?

This is not to say that some criminal lawyers can't help us with matters concerning our respective brokerages, but an attorney who specializes in real estate matters makes the real estate profession a serious part of his or her legal practice.

These attorneys don't make real estate judgements as to whether or not your client should or should not purchase a property, but they are your best source when it comes to reviewing the substance and details of a contract and all of the complexities that lie within.

If you ask an attorney, one on retainer, whether or not you should buy a property they're going to tell you no. If you take your attorneys advice and subsequently lose money on the deal the attorney knows that you can sue because of the bad advice. An attorney's not in business to make your deals for you. Just review the legality of the deal in progress.

I believe you should retain your attorney for legal purposes, not for making your decision to purchase or sell.

As a real estate professional, you should get together with an attorney that specializes in real estate. I believe that you'll be glad that you did.

Let's hear from our attorneys and other members of our great Active Rain community.

I agree.  You should not use a tax attorney for divorce or vice versa.  I agree, the non real estate attorney is just going to say no.

Thanks, Audrey. Experience and knowledge create confidence. I enjoy working with counselors that clearly demonstrate those fine qualities. Nice to hear from you. Hope your having a great week.

There's a logical reason why we specialize within an industry.  A real estate attorney is probably more current with changes or developments in the real estate industry versus one who isn't specialized in real estate. (P.S. I am curious on how you got your URL to go where the cursor is pointed.  Took me a little while to figure out that's your URL - neat!)
