David Saks: Why I Don't Use Facebook, MySpace or Twitter, Never Have, Never Will !

Why I Don't Use Facebook, MySpace or Twitter, Never Have, Never Will !

Facebook is a dangerous, out-of-control social networking environment full of voyeurs, cretins and lurkers looking for indecent relations and a way to anonymously vent hatred.

It includes many less-than-savvy commerce-concerned users trying to get rankings in Bing, Google or other search engines through the application of fast meta tag recognition, which, by the way, is a short cut and lazy dogs way out of some well-defined hard work and effort.

I'd absolutely, positively recommend that anyone with common sense avoid these social networks like the plague.

The Facebook icon on any page is a warning that there's another schmoe lurking in cyberville.

I want the "F" icon, Floogle, Schmoogle, Google, or any other blog or social networking icon that I don't subscribe to off of my pages.

When I see that "F" icon on a blog page it reminds me of an "F" on a second year sophomore's  exam paper.

Isn't this the grade that the Harvard student that founded it got from his peers ?

He's living up to the expectations from his professors.

ActiveRain is great, more than I could ask for,

meets, and exceeds my needs.

Here comes the cattle car !

Social Media will enhance your SEO.  But it is not a magic bullet. Dream on.

And yes - the Government, the Marketers, and the Pervs are all using Social Media to build a profile and a dossier on you.

David, I use G+, FB, Twitter, Trulia, Zillow, Active Rain and any other internet portal to gain SEO and market myself as well as my clients' properties. Glad you can function without all these distractions:)), Endre

I have access to most of those sites, but am rarely on them. I just don't get it.

David, can't say I'm a fan of FB either, but even some of the same "lurkers" you mentioned find their way into AR.

I have all I can do with AR.

I feel you need to do a few well instead of all of the half A$$ed.

David, I know exactly what you mean.  Alas, I have been goaded into using Facebook, but I keep it strictly business.

David, The only networking site I use for business is Active Rain.

Posted by Gita Bantwal, REALTOR,ABR,CRS,SRES,GRI - Bucks County & Philadel (RE/MAX Centre Realtors) almost 6 years ago

Can I say specifically I've gotten business from any of these social platforms? Well, when you ask a Buyer or Seller (not a referral) how they found you, and they say "I found you on the Internet." Well, it could of been Active Rain.

It could of been my own website.

It might have been a blog post on Facebook that I did a $15 marketing boost and it reached 8,900 people.

It might have been a Pinterest photo that linked to my blog that has a link to Facebook that has a link to Active Rain.

I do them all, I do them fairly well, and my business is booming.

It did, however, start with Active Rain, and I've learned everything from here, or the people I've met here.

It's not for everyone...but that's no reason to bash it all to smitherings either!
