David Saks: Are You a Real Estate Agent or a Chauffeur ? (blast from the past)

Are You a Real Estate Agent or a Chauffeur ? (blast from the past)

(here's a blast from the past Nov., 2011)

Bob's Realty Tours

Do your clients get a free ride and tour of the subdivision in your sedan on Sunday while their children are screaming and rubbing their chocolate-stained hands on the upholstery of the back seat of your car ?

Do you find yourself handing out brochures about lead based paint, buyer agency, inspections, disclosures, home warranties and other stuff as though you were dispensing tourist maps at a travel agency ?

Do customers and clients hang around your office wasting your time scarfing down the free pizza and bottled water while at the same time making obvious material misrepresentations about their qualifications to buy ?

Are you still giving up half of your earnings to a broker who sits on his or her cheap fat ass all day and does nothing ?

Well, it sounds like you're nothing more than a commission-paid, independently contracted, licensed tour guide.

One site reports that the average salary for a salesperson or broker affiliate in 2010 was about 15,000 bucks in Denver.

The site reviews the salaries of agents all over the world and averages them, as well.

Were you considering a career change ?
Thousands, sadly, already have.
Just ask NAR.

According to Stacey Moncrieff
Realtor Magazine's Editor and Chief:
"The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® has seen its membership decline 21 percent from its peak of 1.35 million members in 2006 to 1.06 million in 2010. The numbers will likely be down in 2011 as well."
April 2011 Edition of Realtor Magazine

I understand why NAR raised the dues.

The Realtor Party Political Action Initiative spiel was malarkey.

With a staggerring loss in membership like that, NAR couldn't operate under it's projected budget levels.

You don't actually believe that they would admit that they've lost millions of dollars in annual revenue, do you ?

Unfortunately, we chauffeur a bit too often, but it is part of the job.

Yes, it can be abusive if you're not careful.

At $3+ a gallon many agents have gotten smarter, but still plenty that jump and run.

NAR is another PAC that is looking out for its employees and management. Representing us is WAAAYYY down their list.

I hate to say this but my parents back in the early 50's used to look at homes just for fun.   I am glad we know how to screen people better nowday
