David Saks: Run !!!! Here Comes the ActiveRain "Points Piggy" !

David Saks - Real Estate Broker - The Real Estate Mart of Tennessee, Inc. - 4040 North Watkins-Suite #4 - Memphis, Tennessee 38127 - Phone (901) 357-4663

Run !!!! Here Comes the ActiveRain "Points Piggy" !

Some only want to play a game and keep score.

To some members it's a game called "ActiveRain".

ActiveRain is not a game.

ActiveRain is a network of highly skilled, dedicated real estate professionals.

Most of them anyway.

When you get ActiveRain points it's because of your involvement.

Not because of a slam dunk.

So why do some people pig out for points ?

They need and crave attention.

They want to play a game.

It doesn't matter that they post the same listings five or six times for points.

It doesn't matter that they spam the real estate community with email asking everyone to join for the bonus points they get if you join.

It doesn't matter that their blog content is boring and sucks.

They just want to win the game.

The points game.

And that pig doesn't fly.

Don't Be a Points Piggy !

(ps...I didn't get blog points for this one because I've exceeded the blog points quota for the week, didn't post for points, and only receive comment points....)

David -- what a great write-up on a topic of interest to many.  Really enjoyeed the various pictures you used to make your point more vivid!

Posted by Steven Cook (No Longer Processing Mortgages.) almost 7 years ago

Hey David can you re-blog all my posts and comment on every one so I can get some points?

I am a sarcastic and flippant person and the woman who I have been with for over a quarter of a century even says to me all the time "I can't ever tell if you are serious or kidding me". I get a kick out of it.

Thanks Steven. I see that old nasty points piggy rearing it ugly head too often and thought my two cents might earn some interest. By the way, I didn't get blog points for this one. I've exceeded the quota for the week. Hope you're having a great weekend. Listen to my radio show tonight on the web at 9 pm central time if you can http://www.memphis.edu/wumr/profile_saks.php

David, this is hilarious!  And brilliant, as well.  Loved it!  I am glad it isn't just me who gets a chuckle out of the point piggies.

Posted by Jean Hanley, Specializing in Folks Who Want To Buy/Sell Homes (Coldwell Banker Kivett Teeters) almost 7 years ago

Thanks Jean. ActiveRain could use a "Point Piggy" group. But I'm not starting it. Or joining :-)

David - love the pictures! And, we can all tell which posts are for points alone :-)

Good morning David. While I am sure you are probably right: don't worry about. There isn't a way in the world to change behavior if the person is resolute.

You got that right, Carol ! Thanks for chiming in. have a fine day.

Posted by David Saks ((retired)) almost 7 years ago

That's for sure, Sheila. Thanks for the great input on this dilemma.

Posted by David Saks ((retired)) almost 7 years ago

Thank you, Stella. Hope you're doing great.

David thank you for the laugh at the end of the day.

I didn't think members did that any more.  At one time we were ranked by the average number of comments that we would get on our blogs, and there was at least one member that was ranked fairly high, would send other members e-mails asking them to comment on his blog.  He got to be a joke after awhile.

david, I have seen a few points piggies. I try to write blogs that will reach out to prospects. Points are just the icing but certainly not the main reason for blogging.

A few "PP's" out there, Helen and Larry. Glad to hear from you.

I don't do AR contests and your blog points out several reasons that I had not thought of that validate my decision....I'll do the AR surveys to MAKE THE EXPERIENCE BETTER FOR ALL OF US; however, getting involved in contests is not my style

Awe shucks.   Why do you care????

Posted by Lenn Harley, Real Estate Broker - Virginia & Maryland (Lenn Harley, Homefinders.com, MD & VA Homes and Real Estate) almost 7 years ago

You've got "style", Wallace, in other ways :-)

Posted by David Saks ((retired)) almost 7 years ago

Well, you can't take em' with you when you go, Lenn. I'd encourage the rapcious among us to leave their points to a needy real estate professional.

What a great blog, that took a huge amount of effort and thought to put this together!  Way to go David!

Sounds like your sodium content's a little high this morning, Lenn.

Maybe you should check your blood pressure.

Thanks Bruce. Great to hear from you. Hope you have a great week ahead.

The ones that drive me nuts are the drive by spam comments and the posts that are clearly in violation with terms of service, like recipes and jokes.

Posted by Chris Ann Cleland, Associate Broker, Bristow, VA (Long and Foster REALTORS®, Gainesville, VA) almost 7 years ago

I post that garbage occasionally, Chris. But only after legitimate blog entries and never blog that malarky for points. I usually leave a generic "thank you for posting" type comment when I review a listing or market report only. Usually, if it's all cookie-cutter posting in the group, I'll respond in like kind. My music stuff in the social queues is never for points.
