Spreading the love arn't they... blah.... blah... blah!  I don't watch the news and this is a prime reason I don't!  The media just loves negative stories and if it's not bad enough they'll spin it to sound even worse!  So now I'm offically pi$$ed off.

They're spreading the fumes, John. They lie for the sake of selling underarm deodorant, ibuprofen and Plavix. Ever notice that more pain relief crap is sold during newscasts than at another time of day ? It's because they give the viewers a headache. I wonder if the pharmaceutical companies aren't behind all the propaganda so they can sell drugs on television. They're manufacturing illness with all of the negative garbage like this newscast. If people aren't sick doctors and Merck salesmen can't make any money; hence lost advertising revenue for NBC. Manufacturing illness is more important than manufacturing homes to the networks.

David -- Interesting that they are talking about principal reduction -- though they don't understand how it would work or what it would mean to the economy.

Good point, Steven. A reduction of any amount on any loan is a loss to the lender. Deficiency judgement laws are on the table but don't work for the taxman.

What a bunch of hooey!!!!   And she says "we all know that negative equity causes foreclosure"    Uh, toots...NOT PAYING YOUR MORTGAGE causes foreclosure, regardless of your equity position.

The problem is: There is a problem, and their (media) embellishment of the problem causes the problem!  Say that fast 3 times!  We know as REALTORS that foreclosures are happening, they are all around us in almost every market, so with this negativity, will the problem ever get fixed?  It is almost the definition of insanity!
