FBI Accepting Special Agent Job Applications

FBI Accepting Special Agent Job Applications

FBI Jackson March 16, 2015
  • Public Affairs Specialist Deborah Madden (601) 948-5000

Joining the FBI is like no other career choice you have explored. It is challenging. It is exciting. It is rewarding. And every day you have a chance to serve your country.

The FBI is an intelligence-driven and threat focused national security organization with both intelligence and law enforcement responsibilities. The FBI is the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Justice and a full member of the U.S. Intelligence Community. It has the authority and responsibility to investigate specific crimes assigned to it and to provide other law enforcement agencies with cooperative services, such as fingerprint identification, laboratory examinations, and training. The FBI also gathers, shares, and analyzes intelligence—both to support its own investigations and those of its partners and to better understand and combat the security threats facing the United States.

FBI special agents are responsible for conducting sensitive national security investigations and for enforcing over 300 federal statutes. As an FBI special agent, you may work on matters including terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, cyber security/crime, criminal enterprises, white-collar crime, public corruption, civil rights violations, financial crimes, bribery, bank robbery, extortion, kidnapping, air piracy, interstate criminal activity, crimes against children, fugitives, and other violations of federal statutes.

There is no such thing as a typical day for an FBI special agent. Every day is different. One day you could be testifying in federal court, the next you could be executing a search warrant and gathering evidence, the next you could be meeting with a source to gather intelligence on illegal activities, the next you could be making an arrest, and the next you could be back in the office meeting with your squad and catching up on paperwork.

The FBI will be accepting special agent applications during the period Monday, March 2, 2015, through Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Those interested in applying must apply via www.fbijobs.gov. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m., March 31, 2015, according to the time zone of the applicant’s local FBI field office.

  • Be a U.S. citizen
